we would ideally like our blinds to fit inside the window as such but as we cant afford to have them specially made at the mo we are going to have them hung on the outside part of the window..question is can we put them up like this? many thanks.

The width on most venetian blinds can be reduced by trimming. I did it with one from Ikea and it was very straightforward.0

Yes just like fitting a curtain rail to the wall. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

We cut down wooden ones. Make sure you cut off equal amounts at each end though. Mark with a pencil where you want to cut. On a level surface, hold the blind together, and wrap with masking tape where you want to cut. Then gently saw off what you don't need! Was easy as pie and they looked great. x0

We have a wooden blind fitted outside the window, it looks fine. A big advantage is that we have hung it quite high up, so that the blind just covers the frame when the blind is pulled up. The wooden blinds seem to take up a lot of height when fitted inside the window. Now we have more light through the window when the blind isn't in use.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. thanks guys, i have ordered some which are 90cm but they can be cut so have ordered a cutter to go with it and see how it goes!! thing im confused with is the measurements..i have measured the insides of the windows from wall to wall and then again just the plastic bit to see if a smaller one would fit, this would mean there would be gaps down the sides but it would cover the actual window if you get me!! what are all yours like? ahh cant wait till it comes and i can hack away!
thanks again0 -
This company has about 20 shops in Yorkshire and have an offer of free delivery on spends over £100 as well as a £5 discount on orders over £50 in September 2007.
They are the best value that I have ever seen and their customer service is excellent.

They also have an ebay shop

We just fitted them last week two venetian blinds from B&Q dead easy to fit. They were just within the right width but lots of length. Easy thing to fit, just mount two brackets for small blinds larger need another bracket for the middle. It takes 4/6 screws for the brackets for all of them. Insert venetian blind and the brackets lock the blind in place. Then screw the small plastic thing that holds the string that used to pull blind up and down and tier it in place. To open blinds for morning/evening just turn a plastic handle. It takes about 20 mins per blind if that
I think both blinds cost in total about £150 -
I know i'm a bit late with this but for anyone else looking for help with wooden venetian blinds, I got mine from www.kingfisherretailblinds.co.uk
After much shopping around I found these were real wood unlike many that turned out to be a fake wood of some sort. Also the prices on here were cheaper than the cheapest ones on eBay at the time AND they were made to measure!
Fitted easily with 2 box style brackets too0
