These guys are good for that type of gear. If you can get to their shop in Ambleside they do alot of good short term deals and the selection is wider than on the web site.
Most sleeping come with stuff sacks these days and hollow fibre is better than feathers or down (it's easier to wash and dry).

will have a look, and ambleside not that far. but what is a stuff sack?0

It's the little bag you 'stuff' the sleeping bag into to transport it.
Just another thought you don't say where your girl is going camping but buying cheap gear is not always the best option however any good outdoor shop will be happy to give you advice without being patronizing. Most things in life are easy it's just doing them well that's difficult !!!!!!!!!!

she is going to sleep on "sleep mats" in a community centre, so she will be indoors. but as its with brownies, camping stuff will be needed so would rather get something of good quality. can't believe i didn't work out what the stuff sack is. is so obvious. :-[0

It's only easy if you know the answer!!!
PS If you do go into Ambleside you might be better going into The Climbing Shop for advice and then going accross the road to Gaynors to buy. Also if you're going to make a day of it The Sportsman just round the corner does a good lunch. Most things in life are easy it's just doing them well that's difficult !!!!!!!!!!

If there is a local Scout and Guide shop they often do good value sleeping bags - that's where all ours came from.
One of the stuff sacks got ripped and I replaced it at the YHA shop with a compression sack: like a stuff sack but it has straps to squash it more. That was VERY expensive!
If you want it to last through her guiding years, try and avoid pink. Or buy maroon and call it dark pink. More sophisticated. ;D Although what would I know, I've got boys!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Hi there 16011996
A good starting place would be the scout shops own web site
https://www.outdoors.ltd.uk/
a couple of others would be
https://www.ellis-brigham.com/

Best of luck
