if someone can get close enough to me with a card reader i'll give them all my cars and pins and let them go on a shopping spree.

A typical DM type story but this from BT.

How do you get money/cash with a contactless card - goods yes but money/cash ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

They simply enter a small amount into the card reader like a merchant would with a normal transaction and then try and get close enough to the card that's in your wallet in your back pocket. I imagine it's easy enough to get close to people (especially on public transport at peak times) but from my limited contactless experience the card pretty much has to be touching the card reader anyway.

I think a general awareness of your surroundings is a simple enough way to combat the problem.

It would rely on the person with the contactless reader having an account with Visa/MC (in the same way as a shop keeper has), they would then pay the money into their account each week?

What a load of scaremongering nonsense,
    1) they would need to be registered with a payment provider to actually get money from doing this

    2) they would easily be caught and prosecuted as soon as the unauthorised transactions were reported,

£30 max, - the provider percentage, you aren't going to get an awful lot of money before being caught

Saying you need a shielded wallet because of possibme contactless fraud is like saying everyone should wear a stab proof vest at all times because it's been proven that people can be stabbed!.
If anyone was stupid enough to do this they would easily get caught like other people have said and everyone would get the money refunded from their bank. So really there is no problem!
