Is this correct??

I have followed the template on the MSE site to reclaim my PPI , I have received my 1st reply asking for £10 to be sent in order to receive a copy of my T&C's!

Is this correct?

Should I expect to have to pay this for every claim I have made?

  • You've probably sent the wrong letter template.

If you know already that you have PPI and want to complain about it then you don't need to pay £10 for Subject Access Request. (SAR)

If you know the details (account number, dates etc) then simply write them a complaint letter detailing exactly why you think the PPI was mis-sold. The Bank then have eight weeks to consider your complaint.

On the other hand, if you don't know for certain whether you had any PPI then more investigation will be required first and may well cost you £10 for each financial institution. Cheapest way is to simply enquire ,either by letter or 'phone, whether you had PPI. The only problem here is that some older finance won't show on call centre screens. You may also find that records may not have been kept longer than 6 years, in line with data protection.

I agree with above. Sounds like you sent the incorrect template.

You dont need your T&C to make a complaint and it costs nothing to make a complaint. However, it sounds like you requested your T&C and that will cost you £10. It does not register a complaint either.

  • Thanks for the replies, will have another look for the correct template.

Do remember that template complaints have a lower success rate than personalised complaints. People using templates tend to leave all the reasons in whether they apply or not. So, immediately you lose credibility which can harm you in areas where a balance of probability decision needs to be made (which is a lot of them). The side which is most credible tends to win.

Also, the complaints handler at the bank has probably seen that same template hundreds of times. So, they are naturally going to be sit there with a view about you before they even start looking into it. Even the FOS says it prefers to read your personalised complaints rather than a copy and paste of generic information.
