Ideas for ugly wall light

I have a room where the only light is one of those bog standard bulbs stuck on the wall similar to this (but just plonked on the wall):

It is functional but very utilitarian and soulless, particularly with an LED bulb in.
Unfortunately due to it being in a small room with a really sloped ceiling a pendant would look a bit odd, likewise most wall lights and sconces seem to be more "ambient" lighting or uplighting when I need this to be the main room light.
Any ideas for covering this up or changing it? I was thinking a two bulb spotlight bar or worst case just getting a classier looking holder like this. I can't say I've changed a light but it seems reasonably simple from instructions - is it an easy job? My only thought with the current light being mounted would be the wires being too short for a new fitting?

Put in an attractive wall light and use lamps for task lighting where needed.
Anyone trained in lighting design would never use a ceiling pendant as the only source of light in a room.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

You can get batten holders that will take a glass lampshade if that would help.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Suggest you search for 'flush light fitting' - loads of different designs of flat fittings you could mount in place of a batten holder.
Alternatively if you want to keep the batten holder, stick a fancy bulb in it - squirrel cage bulb, or the new LED filament bulbs, or a 'Plumen' bulb.0
