Company Shares

My employer is offering staff the option of exchanging our bonus for share options.

Share option price £9, each share will be £20 to 'purchase' later.

I will only be able to buy about 150 shares so we are talking small figures here. But I am undecided.

Q. I would like to know if by taking the share options, down the line once cashed in would I need to pay tax on them?

NB
I do understand stocks and shares can drop as well as grow.

I believe (based on my company offering a similar scheme) that you don't have to pay tax on them as long as you hold then for a period of time (usually about five years?) so it does end up being a relatively good deal. But depends on where yiu think they're going, appetite for risk etc.
