0% balance transfer card

in Credit cards
My 'other half' has a credit card bill, she is only paying it off marginally due to the crippling interest. She doesn't have a good enough credit score to successfully apply for a balance transfer card.
Can I apply for a balance transfer card and pay off her credit card bill with it? We have separate bank accounts.
Thanks in advance

Yes you can. There isn't generally a problem with this. Make sure you get a card from a different lender as you can't generally do transfers within the same group eg MBNA to MBNA. Some people have reported issues which usually seem to be with smaller lenders.
Some things to remember though - the debt then becomes yours. If your other half and you fall out she can walk away leaving you to repay.0 -
Wouldn't it be safer for you to pay an extra amount each month into him/her credit card account, to help her/him reduce the debt more quickly?
You could do this online quite easily, the card account payment details are given on the CC statement.0 -

I think the intention is to get a 0% transfer card and stop paying the 'crippling interest.'0 -
It would seem a practical thing to do if you ultimately both benefit from less debt as a couple.0

So long as you are able to obtain such a card, then yes.
One small word of caution though. You presumably have a good credit record. Your wife has a bad credit record. Think about how this came to be so. Do not pay off the debt on her existing card only for her to go out and run up more debt again.0 -
Thanks for all the info guys, we have measures in place so it never happens again, we just need to get rid of this debt first then we're hunky dory. One last question, is it possible to pay off 2 debts from 2 different lenders with the 1 0% interest balance transfer card?0

Yes, you can usually do more than one BT as long as you stay within your limit.
Tesco does not allow a BT from another person's credit card. Both cards must be in the same name.0
