Old Ppi

I applied for reclaim of Ppi on an old car loan from the dealership but this was a policy taken out in 2004. This was the reply:
Before considering the merits of a complaint, we are required to consider whether the complaint has been brought within the required time period. As this policy was purchased in 2004, which was prior to regulations of our activities as an Insurance Intermediary, we reject the claim without consideration.
Furthermore, as the policy was purchased in 2004 which was clearly prior to regulations of our activities as an Insurance Intermediary clearly it falls outside the Financial Ombudsman’s jurisdiction. Therefore, we would challenge any FOS involvement with this case.
Is there anything I can do or not?
Thanks in advance

It's pretty self-explanatory. The sale of the PPI on your motor took place prior to regulation (in 2005) and so the dealership don't have to even consider your complaint.Physiocharlie wrote: »Is there anything I can do or not?
You cannot refer to the Ombudsman.
It's game over.0 -

You might be able to take your complaint to the underwriter of the policy as they could have been a member of GISC or another regulatory scheme (at the point of sale), which the Ombudsman has jurisdiction over.0 -
FOS do not like businesses telling consumers it does not have jurisdiction but in this case that does seem likely to be what it will decide.0
