    The wording isn't great, but the requirement is justified. People on this board seem to have a really hard time grasping that people recruit because they have specific tasks that need to be carried out. You're not discriminating if you specify physical requirements that are required to actually do the job. In most standard nursery settings they'll be a lot of emphasis on speech and language development activities. Good auditory and visual abilities are really important. Is the kid making the sound you're teaching them? Has the kid been able to write the letter you're teaching them? Kind of crucial to know. If you can't, you can't do those tasks. That's just a tiny example.
