My sister and hubby are going abroa on holiday to a villa in Sardinia soon. Question is the villa has satellite tv but presumably it will be Italian stations and not english ones. Does anyone know if maybe it would be possible to take your own Sky card to put in the box and therefore get all Sky channels?

unless i'm mistaken if the card does work think you'll only get the free channels0

It depends what box is installed at the villa and which sat the dish is pointing at. Most Italian stations are I think on Hotbird at 13 deg East, $ky is on 28 Deg East. So unless the dish has been set up for uk visitors or has multiple LNBs you are out of luck.
You can receive unencrypted channels on 28E such as the BBC with foreign equipment if the dish is big enough and pointing in the right direction
If you put your $ky card in someone else's box it will not unencrypt premium channels -can only do that with your own box - which you could take with you0 -
There is usually a contractor around who is familiar with supplying TV to expats in Sardinia, plus there's a cottage industry providing Freesat cards to whoever can afford them. Ask in the nearest Sardinian bar where expats hang out.0

Does the villa have broadband anda PC? I ask because there's a product called a slingbox allowing you to view/control sky down a broadband connection. My eyes! The goggles do nothing!0

Apart from which your sky card will only work with your sky box.0 -
The answer to the OP's question is almost certainly NO, surely nobody would go to Sardinia and want to watch Sky anyway.:rolleyes:0

nope, but if they take a laptop, and buy a slingbox they can watch tv on the laptop with all the channels they have at home.My sister and hubby are going abroa on holiday to a villa in Sardinia soon. My brother in law is disabled after a stroke and does not sleep well and is often up in the night. At home he watches Sky inthe night and that is the reason for wanting the same whilst away.0
