  • You could swap a date night meal for a date morning weekend breakfast occasionally.

Swapping dvds- films or tv box sets- with friends

Board games if you enjoy them. A £20 to £40 outlay depending what you go for can give hours of entertainment.

Depending where you live, you might have museums or art galleries near to you that are free.

Pizza nights/ chilli nights/ curry nights with friends (all quite easy to keep an eye on cooking whilst enjoying a glass of wine!)

Picnics in the summertime and days at the beach.

You could use cashback sites to get money back on purchases you make.

I'm currently trying to find cheaper, unbranded cleaning products to save money to spend on more enjoyable things.

Do you have things you could sell online, fbook etc?

The best decision I made when getting married was not to look at a single wedding magazine. If you don't know something exists, it can't become a must on your special day! ;)

There's a guide somewhere on here about how to cut the cost of weddings. Random tip, but one thing we decided to do, partly because of money (but mostly because I love cheese more than cake) is have a 'cheese cake' rather than a sponge cake. with a bottom tier of cheddar, one of stilton, etc. From the place I used, you just pay the value of the weight of the cheese.

Our date night was Orange Wednesday 2 for 1 cinema, followed by a meal at one of the chains, like Prezzo, with 25% off using a Gourmet Society card.

Now we have an insurance with the Meerkats so can go on Tuesday.

There's always vouchers on this site.

  • We do national trust.

On top of that have a look at HHA (historic house association) like NT but gives you access to privately owned houses.

However many have funny opening times or are only open at very specific times of year. So check first if there are enough decent places near you with reasonable opening times to be worth it.

We have Several nearby including Castle Howard, but also it includes places like Glamis Castle, Blaire Castle, Blenheim Palace and High Clair Castle (used for Downton Abbey)

We're also lucky to have the North Yorkshire Moors, the Dales and the Peaks all within, just a little over an hours drive. Suss out good walking places near you

I watched a programme on Channel 4 last night about getting things for free. The presenter went to an art exhibition (with a free glass of wine and nibbles), had a haircut and shave free, a free meal in a restaurant, and a lady he spoke to had free beauty treatments.

Might be worth a watch to get some ideas.
