Building work and VAT relief

Hi,
I’m wondering if anybody on here has any experience of zero rated or reduced VAT relief in terms of building work?
As a family we’ve decided to all move in together into my fiance parents’ house. We’ve successfully gained planning permission to extend the house and we’re currently in the process of finding a builder.
My fiance suffered a brain haemorrhage (stroke) which has left her with disabilities down her left hand side and her brother, who still lives with his parents, has autism.
Our plans are for my fiance and I to live on the newly extended ground floor and her parents along with their son will live on the newly created first floor (the house is currently a bungalow).
Both my fiance and her brother receive DLA (not yet transferred to PIP).
We’ve already tried but failed miserably to gain a “Disabled Facilities Grant” much to our annoyance. To cut a very long story short, the council worker spent 90 mins with us and in her professional opinion deducted that they weren’t able to help.
Therefore, my next focus is trying to work out if we can gain relief VAT on the numerous jobs and materials that we will need to purchase during the next 9-12 months.
Has anyone had any experience?
Thanks James.

VAT relief is only available for things installed or built for those with the disability i.e. lifts, widening of doorways, wet rooms/bathroom adaptations. It does not include extensions of any kind, please see the below links from the gov.uk website:
