Is the collective cheapest?

The Money Tips email states:

"MSE Special: MSE BG fix: £744/yr + £30 cashback, £60 exit fee
Next cheapest open market 12mth fix: Gnergy: £764/yr - no cashback, £25/fuel exit fee"

But when I do a comparison there are two fixes that are cheaper and longer than British Gas, and they are not mentioned anywhere in the email.

Generally speaking, at the time the collective was announced, the BG deal was cheapest for the majority (which might only be 51% remember) of people.

It wasn't ever cheapest for me, but it's given tariffs vary depending on your usage and your location, it's really hard to make sweeping statements that apply to everyone!

    As the email says

How it compares for someone with typical usage
Avg price on Ofgem typical dual fuel direct-debit use (varies by region)

So that means they have used Ofgems average consumption figures and averaged the cost across all supply regions. That means the price stated may not actually be available to anyone, as it is an average price.

But as the email also clearly says
So if you have done that and found a better offer elsewhere, take that! :money:

If you feel that the statements are incorrect then you have two avenues of complaint to follow.

    1. As the statement is made on a website, you can complaint to the Asa click here

    2. Also as the switch is done under the rules of the energy regulator OFGEM then if you think the switching service (CEC) is doing something against the rules then email the OFGEM Confidence Code manager confidencecode@ofgem.gov.uk taken from the OFGEM website switching your energy supplier confidence code

    The MSE email states:
We've negotiated CHEAPER THAN THE CHEAPEST gas & elec
You have found by your own research that is not true. Sure, if you read down the email you'll see how they arrive at their "savings" figures, but the headline is an attention grabbing statement and not necessarily true. However, remember CEC and MSE are a commercial enterprise now, in it for profit, just like many of the other switching sites.
Doesn't mean it isn't a good service, but just treat it like you would any other advertising.

  • in my case no they are not the cheapest.

don't believe all the spin these collective switches tell you, yes in some cases they are but not all, as the statement above states about being the cheapest, its clearly false in some peoples cases, so I,m not sure they should be using that wording

its all to entice people to switch at the end of the day, the more that switch the more these collectives make in money.

that's why you see "switch switch switch" whenever a new tariff comes out, in Eon's case it was 3 in a matter of days if I recall which I found pretty silly.
