Worcester combi no hot water problem/Homeserve problem !

Hi all,
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
I have central heating and boiler cover with homeserve. Since last week I've had an intermittent problem where I get no hot water unless I put the heating on. All I have to do is press the heating button for around 30 seconds and then the hot water starts to work. Homeserve sent an engineer out he had a quick look and said he couldn't do anything unless the fault happens in front of him. This is an intermittent problem which happens probably once a day but is solved by putting the heating on for a few seconds, do they expect me to have no hot water until they arrive so they can see the problem !! ?
Any ideas what may be causing this problem so I can get back onto homeserve with some suggestions? The boiler is a Worcester Bosch Combi 28cdi.
Thanks in advance.
Adam

Hi Adam,
I've got a Worceser boiler and I have a similar problem. My hot water will come through instantly when the heating is on, but needs running through for AGES before it'll warm up if the heating's off. Perhaps this was how yours started?
I'd recommend going across to http://www.diynot.com/ and posting the problem on there- they've got some fantastic forum members there and most questions are answered by professionals withiun about an hour.Don't suffer alone - if you are experiencing Domestic Abuse contact the National Domestic Abuse Helplines

Homeserve or the engineer they use for your job won't want you to be without water but 'intermittent' is a pain in the *rse.
I work in IT and intermittent problems are the most annoying thing ever. The user needs its sorting but unless we can see the problem happening we struggle to work out what could be causing it but can't hang around all day waiting. When it happens the engineer will probably be able to see something happen; drop in pressure, burner not kicking in, a strange sound etc etc and it'll help them find out what it is rather than keep guessing.0 -
hi shell girl, i have a worcester combi, it was installed b4 i moved into the property, i have not had any probs with it since moving in but have noted the site on the instruction booklet, just in case.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

My mate works for the local council - they have lots of these (Worcesters are quite reliable)
You need to get someone in, but I have been told it is a common fault in these models.
The flow switch (the thing that tells the boiler to heat when you turn the tap on) can be blocked - particuarly if you have had pipework disturbed, or the water mains in the road dug up.
It is an easy problem to fix, less than an hour. Better to get a corgi person in to do it. (particuarly home serve as you are paying them !)baldly going on...0 -

Have you tried contacting Worcester Bosch's technical support? The chances are it's not the first time it's happened to one of their boilers and they may be more familiar with the fault.0
