continental airlines

hi all!
can anyone answer this question? we booked our holiday with tradewinds to nyc in march. we are flying with continental.when we booked i looked at the web site and there were lots of seats. we got our tickets today and our seats weren't reserved[when you book direct with continental you can pick your seats]i phoned continental and the lady was very nice, she said we could book our seats but unfortunately there wasn't any left together. i was angry about this.she was able to reserve our return seats together.
so if you get your tickets check the web site and if they aren't reserved give them a phone.
why don't the travel companies reserve your seats when you book if it is possible?
thanks for any help with this

It is annoying that your seats weren't booked but don't despair. I understand that the airline don't release up to 30% of their seats until the day of departure so my advise now is to make sure you get to the check in early. I'm sure you will get your seats together. In the meantime suggest to your agent that they reserve seats at the time of booking in future!
    Have a great trip!

All Airlines(not just Continental) will try very hard to sit a family together when you book in - the earlier you book in the better. However with large families this is not always possible.

All airlines prefer direct bookings as it produces more revenue. So it is not surprising that they offer more 'perks' to these bookings - seat choice and airmiles etc. Sometimes agents are not allowed to pre-book seats and sometimes they cannot be bothered to do so!!
