Unfortunately that's a very simplistic view of the world. The DD guarantee does exist, and it will get you your money back. What it won't do is stop stresses and worries for people when money taken affects cashflow and other commitments or purchases, etc.

I have had hundreds of direct debits come out my bank and not once has their been an error in the amount. So I think it's better to leave the direct debit for a few months to allow for final bills knowing that you can get the money back if there is a mistake. Rather than cancel the direct debit and risk having a missed payment/default on your credit report for 6 years!.
I would being less likely to get credit for 6 years is more stressful than having a cash flow issue for a month to people who have a tight budget.

I wouldn't say anyone is patronising you and I'm definetly not.
I wouldn't say credit files are a con. I think they are good because they allow people who are responsible with money to get the best intwrest rates. This means that they don't have to pay higher interest to compensate for people who are irresponsible with money.
Obviously that's doesn't help your situation but you now know not to be so hasty in cancelling direct debits in the future.

There you are again with your imaginary blacklist!
There is no such blacklist but yet you keep mentioning it again and again lol.

I can see why they won't remove the default because he cancelled the direct debit which is why they were unable to take payment. Cancelling a direct debit is basically saying "I don't want to pay you anymore money". I have no idea why people cancel them so suddenly. They don't need to worry about payments being taken by mistake because there is the direct debit guarantee to protect them.

As I've mentioned before, what is euphemistically called "your" credit file is a potential blacklist. If a late payment marker or a default is put on it, then it's a blacklist. It couldn't be clearer.

But its not as clear cut as that!. If you have a late payment marker or even a default you can still get credit but it will be a higher rate because your a higher risk. The only people who would disagree with credit files are those that pay late or default on payments.
Personally my credit file allows me to get interest free credit cards with high credit limits because i have a record of never missing a payment.
If you think that credit files stop you getting good deals then just compare how good the 0% offers on credit cards were before they existed to now!

Well that's good, but you wouldn't be so happy if some c0ck up, mistake or minor oversight turned "your" file into a blacklist and as a result you could no longer get credit. This board is full of such examples.

All the mistakes that i have seen people complain about that have been made by lenders have been rectified by correcting the data. If people miss a payment or avoid debt and its correctly reported then that is their own fault so they can't complain.

But like i have said before i personally know people who have missed payments and even some with older defaults that can still obtain credit. So using the term of "Blacklist" is definitely not remotely correct.
  • I would of paid £39 if i'd of known about it they had my number, address etc on my new contract that at the time thought they blended into one! its a con.

They love seeing it happen to people we should have more power than we do!

I don't think this £39 with a notice of correction will hinder me that much anyway!
  • Definitely e-mail Tom Mockridge (which is actually his office). You'll get to speak to a human who is tasked with turning bad customer service into a good one, instead of following process or a decision tree that doesn't fit the situation.

I was actually £72 in credit! haha they put the account at zero and credited me with £72

Thanks for telling me to email the ceo!!! wahhhooo
