Who owns a CV?

Hi everyone
Does anybody know who owns a CV once it is online?
Example:
You create your CV
Upload on a job board - they now have your CV and it is online on their site
Recruiter downloads CV from said site and stores it on their system
Who owns the CV?
Can the recruiter do what they want with the CV at this stage? For example sell it on?
Thanks in advance

If I were trying to catch out a site for that I would get a PAYG phone and put the number on a fake CV then publish that to the site you suspect. Then when you get calls on that phone you know exactly where they came from. You may have old phones in drawers and SIM card's are usually free so it's easy enough to do.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Is this just a hypothetical question, or is it a situation that you have had?
The reason for asking is because it may be best to never put your home address or mobile number on a CV that is uploaded onto a job board.
I have always only just put my email address on CVs that I've uploaded online, and that's it.
I've recently noticed that a number of organisations put a disclaimer on the careers section of their website, e.g. "We do not accept unsolicited emails...." bla bla bla:EasterBun0 -
It's more hypothetical.
I guess less selling for telesales purposes and more using for other recruitment purposes.
Bulk sending to other agencies or sending to potential employers without your knowledge to get them to 'bite' if that makes sense?0 -
If you upload your CV onto a jobboard then it is available to all agencies that use that board. Nobody needs to sell it on to anybody else because it is freely available.
Unless agencies are trying to cut their own throats then they don't pass on CVs to other agencies and lose a potential money earnerThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

That's true.
What about sending it to employers without the person's knowledge?0 -
I'll be honest I fail to see the problem here. Surely it's a good thing if an employment agency is passing your CV onto potential employers? It is their job after all.0

When you upload your CV online you are giving the site and its 3rd parties a "license to use it" by storing it on their systems.
You can easily anonymise your CV, thus giving no personal information. e.g. use your middle name. Nobody needs to know that you have your middle name on your CV (and even just your middle name) except an employer who is about to employ you and do any checks - at which point you can simply say what you did and give them your full name.0 -

Don't forget that it's not just agencies that subscribe to job sites but quite a few employers as well. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I would expect that if you upload a CV to a website or give it to a recruitment agency they can legally do whatever they like with it as they will have covered this in their terms and conditions.
Likewise they no doubt cover the possibility of a recruiter downloading the CV and doing what they like with it as well.0 -
