Want to Buy DVD Recorder but need advice

I am looking to buy a DVD Recorder soon but was wondering on peoples opinions. I have seen that ALBA one in Argos for £100 but having looked at a few more it looks a bit basic.
What I will be using it for in the main is recording shows to keep without the hassle of using my TV Card - that being I will record them onto a re writeable and edit them on screen using the remote and then put the disc into my PC, grab the MPEG and along with other files burn it on to a DVDR to keep.
I know multiformat will be important, as will the abilty to play all my current DVDs, SVCDs, VCDs and MP3s but apart from that I'm not sure

You may find that you're not able to edit the RW disc on the recorder in the manner you describe.
Edits on many recorders that use discs, are often only 'visible' on the recorder itself, and when you play the recording back else where you have the whole recording still present. I haven't had experience of the one you mention, so it could be different.
For editing TV programmes, a recorder with a hard disk makes things alot simpler, but they are unfortunately more expensive (£290 for a Panasonic one).0 -
Have just posted in a similar thread. Just last week bought the 4Kus from Asda. DVD recorder with a 4 star rating in What HiFi. Cant praise it high enough for £100. Very easy to set up inc. tuner. Easy guider functions for recording, finalising etc.
Used it this weekend to archive my analogue camcorder footage to digital.

DON'T USE THE ALBA!!!!!!!!
for one thing, there's only one scart, secondly, it's ALBA. Also, don't buy the next one up, can't remmeber who makes it - i had it 12 days and it caught fire.
i have to agree with RICH_JTG, use a hard disc recorder - i just bought the LITEON multi write DVD & HDD recorder from Currys for 299.99, saved a hundred quid and it's absolutley brilliant - and it's got time slip on it as well!!0
