Removing default 3 months before 6 year drop off?

Hi,

Looking for a bit of advice!

Is there any chance my partner will be able to get a default removed from his credit report with just 3/4 months left before the 6 year drop off?

My house is on the market and we're looking at accepting an offer made yesterday. We will then apply for new mortgage in both names but this will obviously need to be done asap before the default drops of beginning of June.

Visited bank last year and they said as soon as the default is gone from his record we would be good to go. Just didn't expect such interest in our current home & to be receiving offers after just a week on the market!

The default was originally for £170 & will fall off after 6 years on 02/06/16 - hoping there might be a way to get it removed early ?goodwill gesture?

Thanks!!

Absolutely no chance I'm afraid, he has had over 5 years plus to sort this. Go to a whole of market broker as for that value and so close to dropping off his file then I can see it will have too much impact on the whole market rather than your bank.

  • Thanks for the reply. It is satisfied as was paid off while he was on Dmp but obviously still affecting his score. When it does drop off in June will his score go up immediately?

We can hang on and rent for a few months Until June if it will be gone!

    Thanks
  • there is no such thing as a credit score. If this is his only default showing, and for the amount of £170, I would do as John1002 suggests and go to a Mortgage Broker. You may even get a better deal anyway.
  • Thanks - Will try a mortgage broker. All new to me as I have only ever dealt with my bank. Fingers crossed we can get something sorted as accepted offer today on my house!
  • Good luck! :)

Definitely try a mortgage brOmer because a default that age isn't necessarily a deal breaker. Make sure it's a whole of market broker.
