npower compensation

Hi there all,
Just here for o advice if you think the offering from npower is fair or if they are trying to compensate as low as possible for the problems.

In 2014 we left npower and had major issues with getting a final bill, eventually they sent a bill but it was over 12 months later and we were covered by the back billing.
Last year we received this late final bill and disputed it and filed a complaint. They replied many times saying he originally wrote everything off but we made a mistake and you owe the amount on the final bill.
We continued to reply and dispute it and eventually had a letter from a senior manager saying he has written it off and apologised for the problems.
It took just over 2 months to resolve.
Fast forward to last week we received a letter from npower stating we owe £248 for an amended final gas bill. We could not believe it, after spending so much time sorting it out last year we get this letter stating action will be taken if not paid. Straight away me and my wife whom is pregnant are stressed over this again as it took so long to resolve last time.

We filed a complaint and I remembered how long it took last time so I spoke with them on social media and they came back to me and said they will look into it and get back to me and discuss a goodwill gesture amount for all the stress and problems.

They came back to me and said they have spoken to the right department and the bill should never of been issued and has been written off. And have offered us £50 compensation for the problems.

I don't know why but I feel the £50 is somewhat on the low side for everything we've been through and the stress they caused. The countless emails and time trying to ring them and speaking to them on the live chat was just a nightmare.

I could be wrong about the amount, I'm iusy unsure how they would calculate it and I've never received compensation for anything before so I'm completely in the dark.

I hope someone can share their thoughts on this before I go back to them to accept there response.
Thank you

See where you are coming from, but my advice would be to take the money and run because the less you have to do with NP the happier your life will be
    BUT
Get it all in writng !
As reported by many posters on this site, there is no such thing as a 'Final Bill' from NP
  • Thank you for your reply.

I understand exactly what you mean about take it and run. The final bill last year was not true or we wouldn't of received this new amended final bill a few weeks ago. They are hopeless with billing.

If you've had as much stress as you reckon then trying to squeeze more out of them will just stress you even more and they are just as likely to withdraw it - they don't actually have to pay you compensation unless told to by the ombudsman.

Take the money and make sure you keep all the correspondence (for ever if needs be) and hope you don't hear from them again
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
  • They truly are a joke, currently on the phone to these muppets, who are threatening my credit rating over a account closed over a year ago , since then numerous threatening letters , then they apologise, then it starts again

  • I thought that the government and Ofgen told Npower that they had to compensate customers
