Would you use PC World?

Hi Nikiya,
Where abouts in the country are you ? My husband is a self employed pc repairer and we have a shop in the midlands area. I'm not advertising our services but really I would try and find a local repair centre, ask around see if anyone can recommend one to you. Not everyone would use Pc World.
Hubby would back up , ie save, all your docs, music and photos, reinstall XP with your disc, and load all the free Anti Virus and Spyware tools that you need, he would make a security folder on your desktop with all the programmes that you need to run weekly to keep your pc clean. This would cost £40 and would take a day to do.
Please dont use PC World, we have customers in all the time who have gone to them and the pc is in a worse state than it was before.Just owe Dad £2500 for a new car

Be careful: I fix PCs as a sideline and I get lots of people who've had extremely bad experiences with local PC stores/repairers as well. Please dont use PC World, we have customers in all the time who have gone to them and the pc is in a worse state than it was before.
PC World are as capable/incapable of solving a problem as any local computer store. So that statement is vewry misleading - especially coming from someone who runs a local service
A lot of people do get these kinds of problems sorted at PC World.
A lot of people do have problems resulting from using local PC stores.
In the end it all comes down to people, not company names.0 -

Nope, they won't work with a DVD/CD RW drive.
I'd take a long hard look at Comodo Anti-Virus and Firewall.
First of all I'd run Stinger though. It's only a small propgramme and easy to install and run, you can get it here

Why they won't work? Does not that stand for "read and write"?
And what is Stinger? Is it to burn DVDs or to get rid of malware? Would it erase my files?
Thanks Mizz <Pink I would gladly take up your offer but I am in South London!!
I agree with you Fallingdown. It happens everywhere!!
So back to square one then... how on earth do I save my files???0 -

Have you made a folder that contains all the files you want saved???
If you put them into one folder then you could see how much space you need and work from there. Then you could make the descision to do it to CD or USB flash drive.
And a DVD/CD RW drive usually means it will read DVD disks and write to cd's whereas a DVD RW will write to both DVD and CD.
How much do you want to spend on a solution. You could pick up an external 160GB drive for around £40 or a small 4GB flash drive for around £17.99.0 -
Assuming its not a laptop a new 40 gb harddrive can be less than 20 quid .Fresh install and backup later.0

I agree with everything you said, the OP asked about PC World so my comment was about PC World. We too have experienced shocking customer service from other local repair shops. Hubbys business is doing very well when other small businesses are failing so he must be doing a good job.Just owe Dad £2500 for a new car
