Sorry for another "Question" thread but it REALLY would be helpful if everyone posted the UNITS in kW/Hr or units of electricity used. Prices for energy vary from supplier to supplier and stating "My bill was X amount or Y amount" doesn't really help with a statistic of actual energy usage.
So I decided to start a new thread with a format like this and when I have enough samples from you good people, I will publish statistical usage in an Excel sheet
Electricity units used
Gas quantity used
Water used, if you have a meter
Bath or Shower
# of people in house.
Main space heating fuel
Cooking fuel
Water heating fuel
I would really like to quantify what is "average usage" of utilities, not how much it costs. If we could all stick to the format below then I will be able to strip the raw data easily, Just copy/paste, enter your own figures in the relevant space and post it here please.
E 824 units of Electricity a quarter (usual billing frequency)
G 68 Cu.M of gas a quarter (usual billing frequency)
W 12 Cu.M of Water a quarter (usual billing frequency)
Shower
2 people

Any energy input should be annual figures in kWh. Anything else is worthless, apart from water consuption! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I thought of that, but most people won't know thier yearly consumption, only the last bill they may have lying around. It would be great if everyone knew thier annual consumption but I dont hold too many hopes.

Figures other than annual kWh are a complete waste of time due to the seasonal variation in consumption. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Gas consumtion is measured in cubic feet / metres. On the bill that arrives they then play maths with the SUPPOSED calorific vale of the gas and convert this to kW/Hrs.
A small icrease in the calorific value of the gas provides a method whereby they can say that "The price of gas has not risen" and be telling the truth, the price of gas has NOT risen but the calorific value of the gas HAS (the gas got hotter overnight)0 -

Gas is metered in cu Ft/M but it is universally accepted that your consumption is measured in kWh. Check out the comparison sites! It would be silly if some users gave their figures in metric and others in imperial, when the standard is kWh. Users are charged in kWh for all energy.

I agree with espresso it only makes sense to use kWh for any comparison purposes as that is how you are charged - per kWh
268 Cubic Metres of gas?
Do you use approx 3,000kWh pa of gas to cook, provide Hot water and heat a house. - annual bill approx £70? Please tell us how.
You also use less than 50% of the average water consumption.0 -

How does the fixed volume of gas contain more or less energy?
Although I use less gas I consume more energy?0 -
How does the fixed volume of gas contain more or less energy?
Why not?
Any gas, liquid or solid can be of a different composition and have a higher density and hence higher calorific value.
Burn a lump of balsawood weighing 1kg and a lump of mahogany of the same weight and you will get more heat output from the latter.0 -
So gas is getting more energetic?
I wonder if it's the same for petrol?
A cubic metre of Brand X regular gas supplies more energy than Brand Y regular gas.
The "energy conversion" factor varies from company to company in the same district of a town, even house to house in the same street.
How can I get pipes that select to supply only low calory / energy gas to my meter?0 -
