There are plenty charities I love and support gladly, with no desire to find a "loophole" to pay less. Indeed as most of them give me no direct benefit (apart from a warm feeling, maybe) paying less isn't a sensible option.
However, for various reasons the National Trust isn't on that list ! So I was interested to read gentlepurr's post above.
Looks like (for a pair of over-60s) I'd be paying the National Trust £105, versus only £60 for NTS. I'll consider my conscience clear if I add the difference to my annual Christmas gift to the Salvation Army (I doubt there are "fat cat" salaries there !)

I visited a National Trust property here in Glasgow last week. The curator told me that the Scottish membership cost less than the English version and would give me exactly the same benefits.
Make £10 per day in May challenge: £310/123.92

The curator was right. I have friend who loves all things Scottish including the NT membership fee!;)

I joined the Scottish NT last year whilst on holiday there; however, the saving is only for the first year and I didn't want to leave then join again. I've been looking out for a discount code but haven't seen any for a while; however, if you live near a property where they have a membership desk or van it's worth just turning up and asking if they have any offers. I saved £25 on family membership today by doing this. You do have to ask though, don't just look at the prices advertised.

There are significant savings to be made if you are 60 or over by joining the Scottish National Trust. Did it about a month ago.

These are ongoing savings, not a special introductory offer. NT introductory offers tend to take the form of free gifts, not a discount (typically a cool bag, but have seen poor-quality binoculars).

Not well known is that NT offer a "senior discount" of 25% to "members who have held either an individual or joint membership for at least five of the last ten years". It's not well known because they deliberately don't publicise it - even to existing members over 60 who are eligible (how sneaky is that ?). Some suggestion there might be flexibility on the qualifying conditions, try telling them you'll join only if you get the 25% discount !

Even so, last time I looked the 25% discount still does not beat NTS prices. But might bring it close enough that you'd be willing to pay the extra to receive the English NT handbook and quarterly magazine.

In any of these million posts did you include a link to documentary evidence of this car parking exclusion ?
Here are a couple of links:

    https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/features/overseas-organisations
    http://www.nts.org.uk/Site/Membership/Reciprocal-entry-sites/

both of the above talk about "reciprocal visiting arrangements". I'd argue that a car parking charge is a "visiting arrangement".

I would beg to differ with you as I live in Scotland and have NT membership and this indeed includes free parking to any NT location. Me and my partner have used this many times without visiting the attraction and there have been attendants onsite who have seen the sticker and waved us thru without charging because we are members
