Fair point, well made?

Options
I copy and paste an anonymous post from Social Media saying...

Whoop whoop, :j:j woo woo :T:T I would love to win your feather duster, what a fantastic prize you are so generous :D:D

That post is deleted!!

Fanny Adams comes along and copies and pastes the competition post from Social media to win the feather duster.

That post stays!!

What is the difference?

Was your post and the Fanny post both made on the same site?

I agree: what is the difference??????

I posted a FB comp on the main board: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5410478

I copied and pasted the company's post and added the link of the post too. I didn't ask for the company's permission to copy and paste their post so why is this ok in MSE's rule book but you cannot copy and paste something like thos:

'Orange - lovely in a smoothie too - would love to win a fabulous Russell Hobbs juicer for my new bealthier lifestyle'

The copied text is from the same FB page and there is no mention of the entrants name. Why is this so wrong????

  • Maybe they are sick to death of you both harping on and starting up numerous posts in chat corner to moan about what others are doing or saying elsewhere and think you might both be better off spending your time entering competitions or trying to find some for others to enter.

Perhaps because one is by an individual and one is not - if a quote is exact it also enables the individual to be searched for.

Maybe you are right though and to avoid any issues they should look at stopping competitions being posted altogether?

There was also this from many moons ago which is largely ignored now

    Hi everyone

We've had some problems with companies complaining about people copying and pasting text including email addresses and answers wholesale into threads on this board.

As well as potentially breaching copyright, if you do it too often companies may be put off doing comps in the first place.

So we just wanted to remind you, if you're posting a competition, please just post the link to the competition, explaining in your own words what the prize is and let the website you've linked to do the talking.

By doing this you'll help us keep the comps board open and the poor forum team saved from potential company wrath

    Thanks everyone

    Andrea

I didn't even know that rule existed and MSE aren't obviously watching out for people who dont follow this rule, because if they did, 90% of comp posts woud be removed!

Someone must be reporting the "fun" threads for them to be looked at and removed - don't know what would happen with a comp thread if it was - certainly far more text is quoted these days with large chunks of T&C's being posted instead of just being linked to.

I agree - think a 'clan' is reporting the posts! Maybe the same clan who keep sending the puzzler and take a break puzzles threads to game over!

By hiding behind the newbie tag you get no trust or respect, grow a pair and use your real name :(

So to ask my question again..

Is there any difference to me copying and pasting a quote from Social Media to here than to someone copying and pasting a competition from Social Media to here?

It is a genuine question because I really don't know what we are doing that is "wrong" :(
