If it's an HP agreement, selling the goods for money is theft. However, most companies that work on this basis don't tend to pursue it as a criminal matter because it's not worth the bad press and bureaucracy for a single item. If an individual does it repeatedly and it becomes apparent they're running a scam, then they'll get the police involved.Mortgage

Theoretically as the company still own the device they could contact the network and report the device stolen which would then render the device useless which could, in theory, make the person or company you sold the device too report it to the police too.
