ESA & Marriage Tax Allowance

I have just discovered about married tax allowance in one of the MSE emails. I am on contribution based ESA (support group) obviously getting much less than 10,600. My husband is working & meets the basic rate taxpayer bracket. Am I still able to transfer 10% of my tax allowance over to him, or are we not eligible because I am on ESA rather than working part time? Any guidance on this would be gratefully received. TIA

You just need to meet the eligibility criteria. There is no requirement for the lower earner to work. The requirement is that your taxable income is less than £10,600.0

OH has to be a basic rate tax payer and you transfer £1060 of your allowance and OH will pay £212 per year less tax, hurry and do it before the tax year endsWhy pay full price when you may get it YS

You just have to have income (not including savings interest) under £10600.
I am retired so gave my husband £1060 of my allowance, leaving me one of £9540, which means I now pay a small amount of tax(as you transfer the whole 10% of your allowance or none of it).
It only takes a few minutes to transfer online and they respond very quickly, now that the rush is over.0 -
