am I responsible?

Options
Hi

I am the policy holder on our presant car insurance, with hubby as named driver, hubby was recently involved in rta, I am now looking for a new insurance policy for a 2nd car for myself only, do I notify insurance company of the rta as if it was my responsibility or not has it was the named driver only and I was not even present at the rta.

Thanks in advance
caris

You will need to inform the new company when you ask for a quote as the policy itself had a claim. Did you lose any of your no claims bonus? If you're not sure it is best to ask before you get new quotes.

    Hi

Thanks for the reply, this will be for a new policy, not a replacement, the original will be continuing, but we will now have 2 cars

If you're unsure whose responsibility it is, ask the person on the phone when you call for a quote.

At renewal I wasn't sure what to say when they asked if my hubby had had any accidents, claims or losses in the last 5 years. I am named driver on his policy and I had an accident last year. I just said that I had made a claim on his policy and they put all the details down in my name.

I think that when you take insurance out for yourself and get to the same question, you will have to say that a named driver on a previous policy made a claim and see what they say.

Oh and also, if you have any NCB left after the claim you can take it with you onto your new policy. It will leave the other car with 0 NCB though, but that can be built up again.
