Please help my partner

My partner is in a bit of a pickle

She has been with Halifax for over 8 years and has been charged £15 a month for the use of the account and overdraft as a advantage card but never knew what the charge was for , she is a bit blonde I do apologise .

She has been told she could reclaim the fee since she started as she was miss sold it due to not know what the benefits where and none where of any relevance to her . Could she reclaim this and if so how is the best way to go about it . As by my working out she has been charged over the time £1400 just for the account

  • Hi thanks for the quick reply, I read through that but it says you need to have bank statements since you started and my partner has only online statements . Where would be best to get them from or can you do it with out

Online statements are the same as paper ones.
  • So if I download them would that count as it downloads as a list of transactions not as a proper statement .
  • You don't need to download or send statements to the Bank. Just make a valid complaint as described in the link.

Do note that you need to be careful and factual with these accounts. The £15 Ultimate Rewards account (which I had) sent you a welcome pack as soon as you upgraded detailing all the cover, how to use it and make claims etc AND regularly sent out updated Ts & Cs and a booklet advising what the benefits were including when they changed it to a £10 fee with the £5 bonus payment if you paid in more than £750 a month and had 2 direct debits. If you claim she didn't know what she was paying for they can simply point out the letters she would have been sent (proof of sending is enough) explaining this.

Off the top of my head the reward offered travel insurance (for you and partner up to age 70), mobile phone insurance, breakdown cover for your car, home emergency cover and a £50 buffer that you could go OD into without fee.

If you used any of them this will count against your complaint and any use, such as an insurance claim, would be deducted from any payout.

Halifax may auto-pay though so who knows

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Have you tried claiming back your fees and if so what happened

No because I chose to upgrade to it knowing what the cost and benefits were and with the saving on phone, travel insurance and the AA cover it was worth it for me. I'm not the sort of person who would then pretend I didn't want the package (and I registered my phone for the insurance + tried to use the AA cover only to find they didn't do pulling cars out of ditches

You dont need statements. The article is wrong. You make your complaint giving the reasons why you think they acted incorrectly.

The only place statements are mentioned is in the promotional spiel about using "Resolver".
It says statements can be added as an attachment to the complaint, but isn't clear that this isn't necessary in most cases.

That's why the OP was confused.
