i am desperate for an electricity bill

I will appologise in advance for the possible length of this post.
I moved into my property 6 years ago. My electric bill was fine to start with the man read my metre then i got a bill. but then man started to read metre and i got estimated bills. i asked man why this was and he said because the metre number didnt match up and he would sort it. nothing changed then the electric company (npower) wanted to double my direct debit payment. i couldnt afford it so stupidly stopped my direct debit. then i got a bill i couldnt afford to pay. i was ill at the time and when nothing happened about the bill i couldnt affod i let it slide but several years later i have never recieved another bill. As at first i was ill i put it to the back of my mind but over the last 2 years i have become worried sick about this. over the last year i have had 3 npower sales people come to my house and ask me why i am not with them anymore. i explain that i thought i was that i have never changed supplier and explained my predicament then i got a contract through the post but no bill then a few months later another npower person comes and tells me im not with them. a few weeks ago this happened again this time the man suggested i changed my gas to them also (yes i know im insane) i pay my gas by payment card and he said they would send me one i set up a direct debit for my leccy and he said someone would ring me within 48 hours. well 3 weeks later no gas card no phone call and no leccy bill. now i dont know who is supplying any of my utilities. I know i should ring them but i feel sick every time i think about it and know i would just burst into tears on the phone. I just dont know what to do so any suggestions other than phoning would be gratefully recieved by the way if they bill me for the entire time i am guessing i will owe them about 7 thousand pounds does anyone have any ideas

  • Sounds like you are lost in "Energy Hyperspace" your meter has possibly been deleted from all databases and you as a customer no longer exist.

"I am not a number", well if you aren't a number then you don't exist.

An "aquaintance" of mine decided to try it on, so he called EDF energy to cancel his account and DD with them, he told them he was going to Npower, so would they send him "his final bill please". A couple of months later he got a cheque from EDF refunding his overpayment and he hasn't had an electricity bill or any type of enquiry for almost 4 years., he seems to have gone to "Loophole space" as far as electricity is concerned

An interesting concept for the less than honest, a loophole to dissappear into.

sounds like a mix up when your meter was changed-there will be a luggage label tucked behind your meter relating to this-contact the meter point registration service for your area and they will advise you who supplies-if you havenot received a bill from your supplier then under the billing code they can only back bill for one year and this can be spread over same period-

Sounds like EDF just closed his account on the property when they should have waited for the notification from Npower. At the end of the day, EDF are still being charged for the meter points energy and will be getting readings so it's their fault too! they can only bill for the last year so well done to the customer and a big clap to EDF for their incompetance!!! They should have initiated a visit with 28 months anyway for safety so they are choosing not to chase it up. Before the 12 mont billing rule, this happened to customers who were actively trying to get billed and then they would be lumped with a huge 4 year bill.

Meliaalison - your meter number is on file with someone, the guy who came out will have passed it back to be investigated to the Meter Operator so it must have been lost! Contact MPAS as suggested above for your supplier and tell them your meter number with a current reading. It should take them all of 2 minutes to set you an account up. They may try and bill you all of this so remind them that they can only bill you for the last 12 months. Also make sure you scrutinise the bill as it's nt uncommon to try to recover more than 12 months through estimates.
    Good luck

  • Well today i recieved a letter from Npower saying they realise that i was already with them so to forget the contract that i just signed. I decided to finally bite the bullet and ring them to find out what was going on. Well that was fun aparantly even though i have a letter stating this the chap on the end of the phone was obviously flumoxed and seemed to have clue about me having an account he stated that he had to get someone to look into my account and they would ring me straight back. mmm still waiting so i decided to ring energy watch as my main fear has been a huge bill and being cut off but decided i needed to get my head out of my behind and actually find out for sure what i was facing. well i have been told they should charge me no more than £1500 and should give me at least a year to pay it off i have also been given a number for the managers complaints dept so if they dont ring me back in the morning i will be contacted them. This taking control is actually quite good i feel better than i have done in years!

Well, they certainly can only charge for a year, no further now. So, it's worth working out what you would expect to pay for a year and then adding it to a further year and dividing by 12 which is how they will probably like you to pay.
