Issue with MBNA not accepting payment

i tend to agree with Candyapple.. check the reference you used, if any, and go back to them and keep pushing. don't give up too easily. they want your debt to a. make them money and b. be repaid.0

Hi all, just wanted to update. Bengal, just to clarify, I hadn't exceeded my limit by anything, and was still within my credit limit. It was that because the standing order was returned and I then missed my minimum payment. MBNA were asking for that payment, plus this months (which is due on Monday next week), plus a late fee, which I wasn't in a position to pay at this point.
I have called them this morning. They are unable to explain why the standing order was returned and could only suggest that I didn't put my card reference number on the standing order. I am unable to recall what I put as the reference but am past caring frankly. I have paid them £250 today and they have offered to take the interest rate down to 9% but are unwilling to reinstate the 0% offer. I have accepted the 9% but am gutted, as I transferred a large sum over to them to take advantage of the offer originally a few months ago. Thanks all for your advice and help, I am really grateful.
You say that you cannot remember if you did or did not put your card number as your reference - you can check this as the standing order details will still be on your list of payments - check now using your internet banking.0 -
I would definitely suspect the reason for it's return was an incorrect reference number. The reference needs to be the 16 digit card number with no words or spaces. It's automated so would bounce back without any human contact.0

agreed. and if you don't specify the account that you are paying, you can't expect them to guess.. but i would still push them further. tell them that you tried to pay, which you did, and try to get them to reinstate your 0% deal. even if you have to try to get hold of some more cash from elsewhere to help your cause:think:0

Lesson Learn
For the important payment like this, make sure that you test the Standing Order before you rely in them.
Do a sentry payment such as £1 and check it whether the money has arrived or not.
If it did not find out why but you still need to use other payment method, e.g calling, or manual payment.0
