Hi
Thanks for the replies everyone.
I wasn't actually there when the deal went down. I did offer my friend (more of a colleague really) £200. So not quite the 50/50 split I perhaps should have offered.
It was in fact with Barratt Homes. I guess the way I would've played it myself would've been to haggle for the best offer, and then present the voucher before signing and see where that went.0 -

It doesn't surprise me that it was Barratt Homes - they have no scruples.
So they are getting people like you to do their advertising for them and then shafting them.
Redrow had a similar scheme several years ago but they actually paid out.0 -
Maybe you should have offered a 50/50 split (though it does mention £1,000 toward their legal fees), but the promotion is obviously offered in bad faith if the sales rep can make some other offer to nullify the incentive.
I might be inclined to complain loudly about it in their sales office on a busy weekend."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -
Did you offer your friend any money on completion to share the 1000?
If not Why should I use a voucher that doesn't give me any benefit and in fact is more expensive than if I went with the developer's offer?
.
They offered the friend a better deal BECAUSE he had the voucher. If the OP hadn't given him the voucher, he wouldn't have been offered the deal.0 -

Or because the sales had commission regardless. So the voucher was a no go either way.
If you can't get a discount without a voucher on new builds, at least in extras then that is an issue."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

No, we don't know what price he got without the voucher. Very probably already below asking price.
When he pulled out the voucher they offered him an additional discount not to use it.
This is quite clear from the opening post.0
