Google Drive Security

Options
Hey guys, do you use Google Drive to store your data? I work online and I use it to access my daily work sheets which contains sensitive data. I use encryption to protect my data however recently it was compromised. Is there a software that I can use to extensively protect my data and other documents that I use online?

Personally I'd trust Google a lot more than Sookasa. Having a 3rd party cloud app encrypt your files is asking for problems down the line (what if they go bust or they themselves have a data breach!).

Personally I only use google drive for non important stuff (Asda Shopping list, a copy of my CV and other boring stuff).

Anything important I DON'T want other poeple to have access to (copy of password database, that novel I'm writing! bank statements, letters to Lawyers and PPI requests to Banks and the alike!) I keep on My "SpiderOak" drive (Data is client side encrypted, no server side encryption.)

Other products are out there to encrypt your files locally before sending to Cloud Storage (Important word being "LOCALLY" as soon as it leaves your PC you've lost your control over it! )

but hey! that's just me ;)

Like S0litaire I tend not to store sensitive stuff in the cloud, and when I do, it's SpiderOak for me too :) Since I have a (no-longer available) 100GB plan with them, I use them for most of my online storage anyway. There's usually discount codes to be found online,. One thing I've noticed is that the code I used several years ago when I first got the plan is automatically reapplied at renewal :D so I still pay $50/year for 100GB which makes is quite cost-effective. I don't know if the discount codes are meant to work that way with them, but I'm not complaining :p

I would never use The Cloud ... you are simply transferring your sensitive data to someone else's computer. The moment you do that you have lost control.

Recent data hacks on some of the world's largest organisations should be lesson enough.

I use Googledrive. Famous last words but no problems with this thus far.

You could use OblivionDrive. It's ever so safe, honest it is.

Make sure you enable 2-factor authentication on your Google account - then others won't be able to get to your account with just the password.

I have "cloud storage" for my mobile devices...... It's my own server, hosted at home, accessible only over a blowfish encrypted VPN, where I can control access to it and make backups whenever I like.

I previously thought that using TrueCrypt to locally encrypt files that I shared on Dropbox would mean that they were secure.

But I read that there were techniques that could compare incremental changes in encrypted TrueCrypt containers, which could be used to break the encryption.

The TrueCrypt project may be long dead now, but I presume that the theory holds for other encryption methods...?

I don't really have any big secrets, but my natural instinct is to avoid uploading anything to a cloud service that I wouldn't be happy for a devious burglar to see.

I have a NAS setup now. My data is all mine. and you cannot steal it, unless you SSH into my NAS of course and use the default passwords that i have not changed :)

When you say compromised do you mean someone got access to your data due to a poor or insecure password but found your data encrypted or did they get passed the encryption too?

As others have said use two factor authentication and encrypt locally before sending to the cloud.
