Brighthouse return

Last year I bought a tumble dryer from brighthouse ano stupid but I really needed one was desperate have 3 kids so lots of washing to get through.
Well last year when the news came on about the fires with tumble dryers I decided to check mine and it was one if the affected models anyway that was back in November it's now February and I still haven't heard anything back from hotpoint.
The other day I seen on the TV that they might start to recall the tumble dryers and that people are now returning them and getting money back. Well I called bright house and asked if I could return mine they said I could but would lose all money I have paid to it when I told them about the risk of fire ect I felt like they didn't fully understand the risk and said that hotpoint said they are still safe to use so I was being silly for worrying to much but I don't think I am I have 3 kids and don't want to risk it. I haven't used my tumble dryer because of fear it might go up in flames.
Can anyone help me out can I get my money back?

You'd be better off posting this to the dedicated Hotpoint thread; https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5366014

Any refund would likely be minus fair usage and hence not a "full refund" that's if BrightHouse even agree in the first place.

Note they could repair, refund or replace and this is entirely their choice.

FWIW, losing the money you've already paid into Brighthouse may still be cheaper than keeping going. Have a look on freecycle and ilk, or ao.com, or ask local council if they know of a local furniture scheme, or British Heart Foundation may have one...
  • How much have you paid to Brighthouse so far?
  • First off, go to the Hotpoint thread mentioned in post #2

Secondly, legally you can quote SOGA (Sales of Goods Act) to Brighthouse and demand they replace, fix or provide a replacement / refund.

You are within your rights to expect a product to be safe, this is not.

Speak to your home insurance company and see if they will still cover you when using this tumble dryer, mine won't. Also get proper advice from the fire service, they will most likely tell you to stop using it.

You can then go back to Brighthouse with this information, also do everything by recorded letter, not over the phone.
