I've just spoken with EDF and they gave me estimates for this year. They can give me an actual in May apparently. They could give me the actual for May 2014-May 1015 though. The electricity was pretty similar to the estimate but the gas was double!

Are estimates worth anything or should I only ever go with actuals?

It's been a warm Winter so most people's gas consumption is down. Run the comparison with a range of gas usage figures. I average 10000kWhs of gas usage per year so I run comparisons at 8000, 10000 and 12000 to see how the cheapest supplier changes. I also have separate suppliers for gas and electricity to get the cheapest cost possible.

The British Gas offer seems to save me at least £11 per month, even with the lowest estimates...

I've been keeping a record of annual consumption for a number of years. Even with cold Winters the figures haven't altered massively eg gas (for heating/cooking/hot water) has varied between 16800 and 17600 kwh pa.
So when looking for potential switches I use my predicted figures not anything that the Utility supplier might produce - about a year ago, the predicted gas usage from my then Utility company was 18,800 kwh pa ,which is higher than any usage figure I have ever recorded:rotfl:

    Hello,

I'm confused as to whether I should switch to this British Gas collective switch or not. I'm not sure how accurate the amount it's telling me I'm going to save is and don't like the exit fees idea.

I'm currently with EDF on the Blue+Price Promise Jan 2017 and this BG deal is apparently going to save me £11 a month. Any ideas how I can double check how accurate this is?

    Thanks.

might be worth to mention that EDF still do not report your conduct to Credit Agencies, neither do credit check you - when you go to BG you will be fully credit checked (not just identity check) and your account will be reported monthly to CRAs
