Instagram help please

I opened an Instagram account just to see what it was all about, because I'd come across some comps for it here. I have entered a few, because I can, by that I mean I have followed various firms who only ask for a follow to enter. But being a complete social media klutz (I'm just starting to 'get' Twitter ), I have no idea if I've won or not, I don't know how to check! When I get a notification or a message on Twitter, a small number 1 appears in the corner of the icon on my iPad. Does the same thing happen with Instagram? Any advice really appreciated.
