I am looking for a small portable CD player which will play MP3 format discs averaging about 500 songs which will play random. Advice please Thanks in advance.

Why not get an mp3 player, so you don't need to carry one or more CDs with you?
mp3s can easily be copied from your mp3 discs to your PC hard drive, or to an mp3 player.
The battery life will be better, it won't skip if you bump it, etc0 -

I have several CD players that will play mp3's all gathering dust in a draw somewhere.
Better things came along. Puzzled why you want a CD player when a keyring sized mp3 player will store at least 10x more than a single CD

I was surprised when I saw at least 4 different makes of these portable cd players in a major german electrical shop at the weekend. I didn't think there was still a possibility to buy them off the shelf0
