Barclays to Halifax switching question

I'm looking to switch from Barclays to Halifax, probably within the next day or two but at Barclays I have to savings accounts as well as my main account. I know the 7 day switching process closes down the original account, but what happens to the two savings accounts and will I still have full online banking access to the savings accounts if the main account is closed?

BTW, I don't plan to keep the two Barclays savings accounts as they are in very poor interest accounts, but I didn't want to move the money into the main account before the switch in case there was an issue with the switch.

I haven’t got a specific answer to your question. However could you not move all funds from the savings accounts (and the bulk of funds from old current account) to Halifax before you start the switch process? That should solve the issue.

Only flaw is that I don't currently have any accounts with the Halifax so to do that I'd have to open an account and then do the transfer. Not sure if that would impact getting the £125 transfrer bonus.

Personally, there is no way that I would switch my main working account without the new one being fully up and running (online access / debit card etc)

No, it won’t affect switch bonus.

You open an account with Halifax first, move your savings to your current acc. with Barclays, then apply to switch after which you can put your savings in another acc. whichever suits you best. A 5% current acc with TSB would be a good choice for up to £2000.

From the very first condition of the £125 switching incentive T&Cs...

To qualify for the £125 switching offer (“the offer”) you must use the ‘Current Account Switch Service’ and meet the following conditions:

Use the 'Current Account Switch Service' to switch into a new or existing, Reward Current Account, Ultimate Reward Current Account (£15 monthly fee) or Halifax Current Account ("your account").

Generally speaking you need first to open an account and then you switch- you need a sort code and a/c number so that the old account can be switched and closed!

I've switched twice in the last 6 months and they went thro without a hitch. I also would move my savings out now and close those a/cs.

Another vote for TSB Classic Plus.
