Even worse, it's full of Northerners.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

So is the South, I'm one of them.

There is nothing at all wrong with the north.

Personally I don't see the benefit of having kids in London because of the sacrifices you have to make in terms of space and money.
In many cases it would be better for one person to move job or have a horrible commute.
Not ideal but most of us can't have it all at the same time. certainly not in London and the SE.

A lot of my colleagues with kids bought ages ago, so it does make you wonder what will happen in future. For example will all the unskilled jobs be done by migrants willing to live in slums.
I just got back from a weekend in the North West. I live between St Albans and Watford.

It feels like no one in the north has a 'purpose'. They drive like they don't know where they are going. They seem generally slow at doing everything. Yes, they're chatty. Wonderful. I think it might be a lack of drive, because it's just a bit easier to live in the North. Down South, you're going to be poor if you've not got drive. You've got to be purposeful.

Being in the North for 2 days reminded me why I left.

So are we arguing that it's not grim up north???

At the very least it's mostly grim up north. I've been to Hull and back.

Well Chuck's already left and I'm saving up to head South so it doesn't really look as though we can put ourselves forwards as ambassadors of the North!

so your effectively saying don't have kids until you can afford to purchase a property? I guess there will be a lot of childless couples in London and the South East for a while yet then.....

I think as I have said if you had proper long term protected tenancies as you do in France and other parts of europe (these can be passed generation to generation) then there wouldnt be a problem with the rental market.

As it is with letting agents fees/practices and the fact you can be kicked out on a whim I don't think it makes for a very stable environment unless you are 20 something, no kids and happy to live in basic accomodation.
No one is saying you can't have kids and rent as obviously you can. But that said is it fair on the children that you end up lugging around cheap rental to the next? I'd much rather children were bought up in stable loving family homes.

Interesting thread, interesting insight into the HPC mind.

    ouch.

    ouch.

HPC forums should come with a health warning:
HPC forums are addictive and can cause serious damage to your financial and mental health.

Notice how although he speculatively sold to rent in 2006, it's not his fault this huge and stupid punt blew up in his face. It's the fault of "the evil policies of our enlightened leaders", who did what everyone else has done and that benefits other people than himself. This makes them evil and also makes the beneficiaries sheeple. Landlords are both evil and sheeple, and also thick even though they're smarter than he is and even though he needs landlords to house him while he speculates ineptly against housing.

Everyone else is mad, stupid or evil. It's all their fault.
