Bit of help in writing a letter for my employer to sign because of broken wrist

  • It's for the ESR as someone else said, I think I'm getting the income related one (since my income is currently low) so they just said they need proof that I work the hours that I said I do.

It was a pain to sort it out with student loans, but I got through to someone who knew what to do. Apparently they said an increasing number of businesses are doing it when employees aren't on fixed shifts and aren't working too many hours.

Just because lots of employers do something doesn't make it legal.

It appears that they have skipped the need for the SSP1 as you have probably shown them your bank statements showing how much you have earned and they have realised that you do not earn enough for your employer to pay statutory sick pay. Strange but hey ho!

    Suggested letter:

Address of benefit department Pub Address
    Date

    TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

    Re: Your name
    Your address

This is to confirm that the above named person has worked at the (named pub) since 00/00/00.

    Week 1 - employed for x hours
    Week 2 - employed for x hours
    and so on............

If you require any further information do not hesitate to contact me.

    Yours sincerely
    Employer's name
    Employer's role (owner/manager whatever)

Happy for people to add/correct - pay could be added for each week?

Edit Can't get the format right - pub address and date under should be on the right hand side!
  • Well, they don't have a PAYE number or anything I mean, I used to get mini wage slips until the mum of the main boss (who is also a boss) ended up in hospital for a month or two. They keep record of what they pay me, I just don't get a slip anymore.

Edit: Thanks, I'm off out for half a day but I'll draft up the letter when I get back :)

So does no one in be pub earn more than £112 per week?

    Quite possibly not.

My local seems to be staffed by regulars who work during in the day and do shifts at the pub 1/2 nights a week for beer money. Nothing wrong with this arrangement IMO and it at least means that those working there know who the regulars are.

There are no pubs in my area that don't have at least one full time member of staff.

In the case I mentioned it just seems to be the licensee and his wife.

No idea on others, as (boring I know) I tend to drink in the same place.

Amount earned each week should definitely be included.
  • Thanks a lot lindy, really helpful :)

Aside from the landlady and her dad, nope. I may on a rare occasion earn more than that but on average it's just above £90.
