Home Emergency Cover Claim - do you have to declare at renewal

Hiya
I have John Lewis Premium Home Insurance with emergency cover and have just done a callout to them as no heating.
When I logged the I asked the question whether at renewal I needed to declare this as a claim, but the handler wasn't certain. FYI - there is no excess payable on this portion of the policy
I had home emergency cover previously with another insurer and just remembered that I had to do a callout for a leak, but didn't have to declare.
What's the general consensus?
Thanks all

I had a few claims over the year and never declared. They were not listed in my renewal either. I seem to remember to have read somewhere that all those add-ons, such as legal and home emergency, do not affect the main home policy.0
