RBS PPI - Revisited??

We sent letters to a number of banks for my mother and after in law back in 2011 for PPI claims. We were really successful and got back over £25,000 :j They have just called to say that RBS (I think might have been M&S card) have sent them a cheque today for £10,800 :j:j
It says a letter was sent on the 3rd February to explain but they haven't received this. I think they received about £8,000-10,000 first time round so not sure what this is for. Does anyone give any ideas as can't call them until Monday to find out and don't want them to get their hopes up yet x

Some of the banks are looking back at old complaints (by instruction from the regulator) where a complaint may have been rejected unfairly or where earlier debts may not have been identified.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. Thanks. It seems that they are reviewing all claims as per the ombudsmans instructions. I'm hoping others get some surprise payouts as it was for a RBS credit card claim :jApr - Makitia DAB Radio
