Bank loan paid off.

Please can someone help?
I had a loan with my bank whom I rang and asked for a full and final amount to pay off the loan. Two days later I rang, asked if it was still correct which that said yes to and I then paid it off in full over the phone.
A week later I rang asking for a statement showing it had been paid off. I was informed that they had made a mistake and I'd overpaid by £421 which they were putting back in my account. Once they'd done this I could have a statement.
A week later I rang again asking for statement as the bank had refunded me. After speaking to 5 different people in an hour I was eventually reassured it was fully paid off and a statement had been issued, which I received a few days later.
This week I received a letter saying they'd made a mistake and I now owed them a further £421. I rang and said I didn't and that I had a statement saying it had been closed. I also told them to go back and listen to recordings of my phone call where I'd been reassured it was paid in full. Now they're saying if I don't refund they'll just take it out of my bank account.
Can they do this? I'm currently on ESA, housing benefit so don't have a penny spare never mind £421.
Thanks for reading.

Since interest accrues daily you shouldn't have been given the same figure 2 days later. Unless both figures were based on settlement being received on a certain date.
The bank in question is...?0 -
The bank is Lloyds and I was Told the settlement figure was correct for the next 14 days. I did question it, said I wanted a full and final settlement figure and was assured it was correct.0

Of one thing you can be fairly sure - the phone call recordings will have "disappeared", especially if you're in the right.0
