Delay in Debit Card Payment Clearing...

Hey,
Not sure if this is the correct place to post but any help very gratefully received.

I flew to Norway with Norwegian Airlines at the end of November last year and forgot to book a bag on when I booked online. I then paid for my bag at the desk at check in with my debit card.
Yesterday I was looking at my bank account and saw that £30 had been taken from my account to Norwegian…is it normal for it to have taken 2 months to clear?

I can't check my old statements as I switched back accounts (just two weeks ago!) so no longer have access to the statements for the card I used at the time to hand...

To make it even odder, my Mum flew with them on Thursday evening (it's a regular trip we make to see my brother who lives out there…) and it was Friday that the £30 was taken out. So confused!

I have spoken to my bank and they have told me to contact Norwegian (open Monday to Friday…) and my old bank to see what is happening…just wondering if others have had a delay of weeks in paying for checking bags in at the desk and it clearing from their accounts?

Many thanks

    Hi OP,

Did it debit the old account (unsure as to how they would have your new details otherwise)?

And suppliers of goods/services have up to 6 months to take payment, so from that end it is perfectly legal and normal for it to take two months, although not the standard procedure.

  • The delay has meant you have had an interest free loan since November.
As you should still have the funds in the account from November you have not lost out in any way.

You can only complain if they have charged you more than agreed or duplicated the payment.
  • Thank you for your responses, I wasn't sure whether to put it in the banking page or not as what I guess I was trying to get at was have other people experienced a delay with debit card payments clearing when purchasing through airlines specifically. I've never experienced a delay of this amount of time before and my account never showed that there was a pending amount.

I have the funds to clear it so all is good in that respect but I will have to wait till Monday to go into branch of my old bank to see if it has been duplicated or not as I don't have my statements from Nov/December due to switching banks. Ahhh it will all figure itself out, thanks for the responses though

It's certainly not specific to airlines, it's a common query on the banking and credit card boards and it can happen with a whole range of retailers and service providers. I had a roof inspection done on a house I was hoping to buy last April and still haven't been charged for it, even though I rang them up and told them that a month or so after the work was done.
