Dear All,
Please learn from my mistake and do not buy from this website or similar websites: "buymsoffice.co.uk"

It seems they have sold me a product key that lasts for a few weeks then becomes invalidated. Poor customer service promising to solve the problem, No reply to emails or calls.

For those that have the sense not to buy cheaply in the first place, good on you!

You could have downloaded Libre Office...it is free and does mostly what MSOffice does.

    Hi Maximise

I downloaded "LibreOffice", after viewing recommendations on this site, and although it is good for basic "word" jobs, what I found was a slight "downfall" was that when I had carefully, painstakingly created my current CV(s) ready to send to prospective Employers and Agencies only to find that the format is presented as ".odt", as opposed to word, pdf, etc. (My end, the document looked great, it seems at their end, it looked completely "out of sync", as though I had never typed anything before in my life! Needless to say, I didn't get the job(s)!

Most of these "job sites" will only accept documents that end in ".docx", "word", "pdf", or similar. Also, many of these are computer-generated and therefore if your document is not in the "right format", it just rejects it.

I have tried to transfer my CVs, documents, etc, to pdf and word formats, but it is not necessarily possible without "Adobe Acrobat", it seems. However, that is another payment or subscription!

I recently spoke to a Tutor who knows about computers and the internet, and he suggested "Open Office". That, I am about to try.

    Best of luck.

    to change defaults in LibreOffice

In Libre Office just choose file, save as (plenty of file formats available)

You can make Libre Office automatically default to MS office formats by opening up a Libre Office document and then choosing Tools, options, load/save, general, default file format, choose default, Ok. You are then set up for all future documents.

While there you can use the same default file format dialogue box to set defaults for spreadsheets and presentations also.
  • Bit late now, but a hint before you splash your cash online in future is to do a bit of research first. A good first port of call is Trustpilot

    https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/buymsoffice.co.uk

you can also do a whois search to see how long they have been in existence, https://www.whois.net/, in this case, about 9 months, and only one a 1 year (usually the shortest possible) lease, both red flags.

Compare this to a large company like amazon for example, registered since "Before August 1996" and has over 4 years left on the lease.

    Paul

    A word of warning.

Before you send a .doc/.docx CV off to a prospective employer that you have produced in Libre Office open it in Word Viewer to ensure that your formatting stays the same.It is not guaranteed.

    From Libreoffice.org
Does LibreOffice fully support Microsoft .xlsx and .docx file formats?
No. Only Microsoft "fully" supports these formats. It is also important to more clearly indicate which version of OOXML the statement ".xlsx and .docx file formats" refers to:
