Hi All,
Currently renting with sky package, soon to hopefully be moving into our first owned home which is a brand new house on a new development.
Now I've been given my address in full and it's appearing on the royal mail website when doing a postcode lookup.
But it's not appearing on sky or virgin media or uswitch as it's saying please enter a valid post code.
Does anyone have any experience of where to start? I have 8 months remaining on sky package and prefer sky so would like to stick with them if i can.

Phone them, new build addresses can take up to 18 months to appear on companies databases, as it depends how often they update their address software.
I've lived in a new build house for almost 2 years and just last week tried to put my address on to a company website for a delivery & they didn't recognise my postcode...1 -
Don't know about Sky, but I think the database used by Virgin is called something like Badger and it takes forever to update..
My mate bought a new build 9 tears ago and watched the fibre cable being installed in the road, tried to get Virgin services and still can't - Virgin say it's still not on their database and that's after 9 years.
As for Sky 0 as other posters have said give them a call.0 -
Don't try Sky until you know the status of your telephone line.
Openreach may not have activated the line into the development, and you may have no line into the house. Check your postcode on the Openreach site. Sky won't know this and they'll just book installations, cancelling them the day before when they realise there's an Openreach issue.
Or like us, you may have no telephone line. We have fibre only so our options for broadband are extremely limited. Not only did the developer not tell us, it took 3 months of failed Sky broadband installation appointments to work out why.0 -
if its a new build estate, FTTC may not be immediately available, until critical mass makes it worth while
most big builders will register your house number as they near completion, sometimes 2-3 houses at a time on a street.
be prepared for bog standard broadband for a while, before you upgrade, but that will allow you to get cash back via quidco for upgrades!!!
check your address here for estimated performance
http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/, if your house number isn't there try the closest, but don't put money on what you will get, as there is a chance you wont be on the same street cabinet.
for example, my house is no 60 and I'm on cabinet 50 and currently get 5.5mb, no 38 (20m away) is on cabinet 49 and gets 79mb!0
