Burglar Alarm Quote

My burglar alarm went on the blink and the guy from the company came round. He said it was the fuse in the main unit so he put a new one in and that went also. He tried it another couple of times and it kept blowing.
He said I need a replacement keypad and the main board. The quote that has been given is 180 + Vat. It is a AP27.
Does this souns about right and do I need a new one for a fuse blowing or is it something simple which can be fixed.
Please help!
Thanks

I install a complete new system including remote keypad and bell box in eaves for a little over £300 (with pet tolerant sensors - you can set the alarm and it ignores pets less than 36Kg)
Depends on how awkward the job is.baldly going on...0 -
I had a similar problem with ADT but they pay for all servicing (2 x a year) and replacement parts if needed as I pay them monthly for the monitoring of the property (so I guess it is included in the monthly cost).0

or to monitor it yourself fit something like a SD1+ and put your mobile number in it etc and monitor it yourself for about £50 one off free. Dont use wireless sensors!0

What's up with wireless sensors, Duncan? Is it an ok option if I cannot afford an ADT wired system..?
Thanks:dance: That window's cracked on both sides!!0 -
£180 quid sounds cheap just to get a security installer around, no matter what they do. Good quote I reckon, I have seen prices in the region of several thousand for setting up a security system, although there was a lot more too them (but no heat seeking weapons)0

I fitted my own alarm many years ago and have since done around 15 more for friends and family.
90% of the work involved in a neat job is routing cables.
A quick check on the net will find your panel for £40ish so you will be paying around £140 for the unit to be swapped which would take around 1hr as the wiring is already there.
Depending on your confidence level you could disconect the zone power leads to the sensors and the bell box and put a new fuse in. If it doesn't blow then there may be a short in one of the sensors or their wires. Now you can connect each sensor one by one until it does blow. This will tell you which one has the short. When you have found the power leads that have the short you then need to follow then up to the white sheath which will most likely contain 6 wires. Find which zone that 2 of the other 4 wires are connected to. This is the zone with the fault. You can the disconect the power wires at the sensor end (dont let them touch). reconnect the power leads at the panel that had the fault and put in a new fuse. If it blows again then the wire has a short. If it doesn't blow then the sensor is faulty.
If you do have a new panel then make sure the fuse doesn't blow on the new box. If it does then the diagnosis was wrong. The installer would probably try and cover himself by recomissioning the system, find the real fault and charge you for that aswell as the unecessary new panel!Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j
