Hi,
A sideline viewer who hasn't posted in a while but I would dearly like your advice on a few matters.
I bought a Liebherr Fridge Freezer from a company that repairs these machines as a service co.
They sell various goods that have been damaged and repaired and then also service all the major brands.
Liebherr are supposedly one of the best brands for refrigeration in the world and having just built a new house I wanted a fridge freezer that was 1200mm wide so 600mm freezer and 600mm fridge (usually theyre 900mm). Anyways, so I was offered a fridge freezer from this company that told me that it was a refurbihsed machine but he had had one going for 3 years himself and with absolutely no problems. He also said there was a full warranty as his company serviced them anyways.
So I bought 2 of them. One for me and one for my mum and dad.
Having dealt with his company before on buying a number of different appliances I knew they were a good company and thought it was a good deal especially as they are the local agent are repair people for that particular brand.
So we got our machine installed and all was good until the freezer started playing up.. weird readings and it needed rewired...
He reassured me all was good and they would repair any problems.
This was July 2013 by the way....
So that fixed it then more problems with the ice, the water the temp reading and then finally the only problem was the ice machine was constantly dripping and then freezing up. And this was an on off problem which he sending his guy out to fix two or three times a year.
Then because of this freezing of the ice tray and not working the ice tray broke.
He said that the warranty doesn't last forever and i agreed with him that obviously it didn't and if something had broken that was a completely new problem then i would of course have to pay for it to be fixed. However I did say that this problem is a continuing problem and that he had been out to fix it maybe 3/4 times a year for the past 2/3 years.
It has now just happened again exactly the same as the last repair which was the water had leaked into the ice cube box and frozen it up so when the ice tray went to turn to let the cube out it couldn't so frozen solid. We tried to open the box the tray must have been stuck to the ice and hence it is all cracked and broken repair or so and I am pretty worn out with it all.
So my question is what if any rights do I have.
I don't particularly want to go to Liebherr but will if I have to. I am going to ring him and explain my further grievance but would like to know where if anywhere do I stand as far as my rights are concerned!
Thanks for reading and look forward to your help

Nothing to do with that, you can see by the views to replies ration that people open the thread, see the large amount of text and back up out of here without reading, meaning you miss out on valuable assistance.0
-
Going to the manufacturer won't help, as you have no contract or warranty with them, unless they could put pressure on the seller to sort the problems out for you.0

BoP now interprets fir the coffee drinkers.
OP, bought a second had fridge a few years ago. It was a brand unknown to most, and the thing did not work too well. It was fixed by company who sold these second hand knock offs. It allegedly has problems with the ice making part of machine, which freezes up and drips. Man from knock off shop has been round, and tried to fix these last few years to no avail. OP is rather fed up of knock off shop and wants to go to manufacturer instead.
It is understood, that while knock off shop is reported to be a bad type of outlet, mthey seem keen to keep on turning up to defrost said ice maker and keep op happy.
OP is not amused.
BoP now offers his advice,
Having taken out water heaters on aircraft, and seen the mess these things get to, I would rather not use any device capable of freezing or boiling running water. Thus, I would get a normal fridge freezer and use an ice cube tray instead.0 -

tbh marcarm, the people that cant be bothered or become bored when reading a small amount of text then they may not be the best people to have commenting or advising.
Usually if you give people most of the info they require to understand an issue then you don't have to continuously answer questions due to lack of detail.
However I take your point about being more to the point so to speak.
The main 2 points;
1 - The company I bought them off are the very ones who service/repair these machines therefore i trusted i would get the right kind of after service.
2 - The company has carried out the same repairs and it still isnt fixed properly.
3 - When does a warranty end.. after a year and thats it or if a problem is fixed how long do you have on that part before its warranty is expired.. is it another year ?
Thats where I'm all a bit confused.0 -
A warranty is in addition to your statutory rights and as such can include any reasonable restrictions. When does a warranty end.. after a year and thats it or if a problem is fixed how long do you have on that part before its warranty is expired.. is it another year ?
However, in your situation it does appear that you have a verbal warranty without any clear indication on the length of that warranty.
Has it been suggested to you that there is any warranty on parts used in the repairs? If not, there is probably no warranty supplied.
In both those cases you can fall back on your statutory rights - from The Sale of Goods Act, etc.0 -
A warranty lasts as long as it says it does, and covers what it says it covers (and nothing else). A manufacturer or a retailer may offer a warranty, or they may not - it's their choice.
A warranty is in addition to your statutory rights.
Your statutory rights are with the retailer, not the manufacturer. The manufacturer can only be liable if the product actually injures you.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
