Costco Online Returns

I purchased a TV stand from Costco Online, received it 11 days ago. I opened the box to look at the installation instructions and it became clear it wasn't suitable for my TV so called them to arrange a return.
Called first on Monday, I was told someone would email me returns authorisation within 24 hours. Nothing came so called again on Tuesday evening, this time they said it would be 48 hours, called again Thursday, was told "someone will get round to it eventually".
Pathetic customer service when you consider the website proudly proclaims the ease of dealing with returns etc.
Working on the assumption they are not going to send me this returns authorisation then what can I do to get this sorted out? I have a huge box blocking my hall and £200 tiied up meaning I can't get a replacement util I receive a refund.
Am I looking at contacting AMEX to claim off their insurance?
