  • Don't they make an adapter, that plugs into the I-phone, and allows you to back up files, onto a SD/MicroSD card?

    There is also a HUGE difference (actually a factor of eight) between a Gb (gigabit) and a GB (gigabyte).

    It's actually 2^8 = 256 and not 8

    Perhaps you mean power instead of factor ;)

    Nope.
    What he meant was that 1 Byte = 8 bits

    No doubt they do and at the usual exorbitant price.

    More costly than an external HDD?

    Probably not, but no doubt still overpriced and something that should be built into the device.

    Well, you decide:

    Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader £25.00 MJYT2?wid=445&hei=445&fmt=jpeg&qlt=95&op_sharpen=0&resMode=bicub&op_usm=0.5,0.5,0,0&iccEmbed=0&layer=comp&.v=1454779300513

    If I understand correctly, it supports only reading the card, not writing to it.

    Yes and ?

    1 bit = 0 or 1

    8 bits = 0 to 255

    Thus 8 parallel bits carries 256 times more information (and not 8) than a single bit. It's something people often forget.

    And?
    Your 256 is absolutely irrelevant to the topic.

    The capacity of storage devices is measured in bytes (GB=GigaByte, MB=MegaByte, TB).
    It's often get confused with Mb that is used for the speed of connection:
    Mbps = Megabit per second

    Each byte is 8 bits.
    1Mb=1Megabit=1MegaByte/8=1MB/8
    1MB=8Mb

    So, in terms of capacity the factor is 8, not 2^8=256.

    If Mb were used for the capacity, 1000MB device wouldn't be able to store 256 times more music/photos/videos than 1000Mb device.
