O/S Daily Saturday 13 February 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them x

Birthday Wishes to those with a birthday x

Still dark, but it's turned very cold here, had a very sharp frost yesterday morning and the same is forecast for the coming days, although we have had some sunshine on and off during the day.

Dinner wasn't quite what had been planned, the menfolk had all been chatting Thursday evening - and had decided between them that it would be nice to have a takeaway pizza from a pizza place DS1 and his friends sometimes use, so last night he and DS2 went out just before DH was due home from work and bought pizza and chips for us all - DH walked in just as we were dishing up/getting drinks sorted - all eaten and enjoyed, although we did buy too much - if we buy again we will cut the order down dramatically, but nice night off for me too. Dinner tonight will be either egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns, beans, mushrooms or chicken and prawns in black bean sauce, egg and veg fried rice and noodles. Think it will be the latter as I've just got the chicken and prawns out to defrost as I didn't do it last night.

Yesterday I got to MrA..i's, and got everything I wanted done there although did have to visit MrM's on the way back past as they don't carry everything I want. I came home unpacked the shopping, and then managed to continue with the washing and stripped our bed, got the bed linen washed, dried and folded and away, for a short while there was an empty dirty washing basket - until the menfolk started arriving home from school/work - WM will be going on in a while as it's full again and there will be 1 more load after that. I also had several monetary bits to do on the pc, all of which I got done.

My mood wasn't great again yesterday but I did manage to keep reasonably occupied, but feel somewhat brighter this morning - hoping I'll be able to continue this over the coming days. Today's plans - DH and myself will be going to town to visit the bank, then the day's our own - we will be visiting my parents - we won't be visiting DH's parents as they are coming for lunch tomorrow - I'm cooking roast pork and roast chicken, all the normal accompaniments, dessert will be apple pie, or meringues with raspberries and cream - nothing to difficult. Will be chilling for whatever is left of the day tomorrow once they've left - and won't be doing loads today either.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning NMLC and all who follow. We've got up to a very frosty start these last few days but not today. I suppose that means it's going to rain!

I have the pleasure of the Friday clean round today, as it didn't get done yesterday with the DGDs here all day. Also a pile of ironing but might turn a blind eye to that! After today we are hoping for a short spell of me-time as DD has taken some holiday to cover half term break. Just one appointment this week - Mr TA seeing his GP and likes me to go with him as I can explain all his treatments better! For some reason both hospitals seem to keep the surgery in the dark and there is a distinct lack of communication.

DS came yesterday with some new ladders we have jointly bought! They will "live" in our garage and he'll come for them when he needs them. They don't have a garage and these days you can't trust leaving anything on show outside! I think our kids think our garage is the Tardis judging by the stuff they bring to store in there!! There's barely room for the car in there now!

I have just got some chicken thigh meat out to defrost to make a curry later. I'll make enough to provide left overs for supper tomorrow too I think.

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. HILSTEP I hope the new medication helps. DUMPLING I hope your jaw pain can be diagnosed and you can get something done to ease it. Take care everybody xxx

    Morning all,

Not quite so cold here this morning we are due rain most of the day I think. Had a busy day yesterday went to Lidl and was home just after nine, put the food away and hung the washing only for the heavens to open 1/2 hour later !

I cleaned through downstairs and gave the bathroom a good scrub, in the afternoon I had a nap on the sofa, so a good day.

Off to work today dd working a shift too so will take her with me, not sure about dinner OH in charge of that, but there are some chicken thighs in the fridge and I fancy a curry too.

LW so glad about the decision, you can relax for a while now xx

    Hilstep hugs to you xx

    Have good days all xx

We have DGD here at the moment, I'm taking hubby to work it's not his turn to work but one of his team has had a death in the family so hubby is covering his shift for him. Then I'm collecting DD2 and dropping her at work, from there to the butchers to collect some beef wellington for a treat, then to the Co-op to pick up their £5 deal. Then dropping stuff off to DD1, then on to Tesco to buy dry goods. Then home to make cakes and do crafts with DGD, then collect hubby from work.
This afternoon I shall have a nana nap!
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Good morning.

I arrived at my mums in time to get her cleaner to help me turn the mattress on the spare bed which badly needed it.

Before I left home I did a washing load and a dishwasher load too. When I opened the dishwasher the hot steam set off the smoke alarm, gave me such a fright!

I bought a new printer on the way down, gave up the fight with the old one which I think is at least six years old. It wasn't showing on the network anymore so I get fed up with fiddling around with it. A new one was just £40.00 so no brainier really.

Today it's mum's shopping trip this morning. I had planned to drive home again this afternoon but she's asked me to stay until tomorrow. Think it's because we got a phone call at about 5.00pm to let us know that a very dear and long standing friend died about 15 mins before. Not unexpected in the long term but a surprise nevertheless. Apart from his COPD he succumbed to an infection. Such a sparkle has gone from our lives.

Judi - good to see the pics of your post-op pooch.

No idea of food until I hit the shops. I may just get myself to town too as I do fancy a new gadget. :o

    Anyway, happy Saturday everyone.

    Morning All

Grey here after a couple of lovely days, I think sleet and snow is forecast. Had washing ready to go outside but that has now been put on the airers, really wanted to have the bedding smelling of the outside! Got a load of washing dried outside yesterday so that's a bonus.

Went for a lovely walk around the park again yesterday, forgot that I liked the feeling of my cheeks all cold but they were rather rosy later on when they warmed up!

Off for a swim in a bit then DD is coming over as we are visiting friends this afternoon, she hasn't seen his little boy for ages so that should be fun. I'll probably take her home later, I think I agreed to look after my friends children tonight too, they may have to come with us and then I'll take them back to their house.

DW about to go on, I'll run the hoover round later. I did the ironing yesterday so that's one thing out of the way for a while (I iron as little as possible but do like the pillowcases to be ironed).

LW - Glad the wait is over and you keep your blue badge.
Dumpling - Hope the jaw is better this morning.
Judi - How's the little patient today?

Have a good weekend. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone,

But of a disturbed night for me, my big dog Rosie had an upset tummy and whined several times in the night as she needed a quick dash to the garden. She wasn't sick and seems ok now so will just keep an eye on her, typical Lab she eats anything so might have picked up something nasty on the evening walk.

Hard frost here and has certainly turned much colder, need to get some washing done today and change the bed but other than that not much needed as DOH has been keeping on top of the hoovering etc. So will get over and see Bill again this afternoon but generally just chill out.

LWglad to hear you are relatively happy with the outcome of testing, blessings.
Dumpling hope you are feeling a bit better.
Gers condolences on the loss of your dear friend.

Take care everyone, hope you have a good Saturday x

    Morning all.

'Ginge' is a lot brighter today thanks. Hubby who said he wanted to sleep downstairs with her last night gave up the role at 3am. Much as expected he gave up the roll when I got up to use the bathroom. He is one of life's hard grafters but he is useless in a nursing capacity. I'm not moaning. What he lacks, I am better at anyway.

Not sure I'll get out the house today we will see. I've seen the wound on her bum. Looks good it will be a mammoth task to keep clean as it's just below her anus.

I've got Grandson overnight. Dunno how that will work out but I'll give it my best shot.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

  • Morning ((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one. Its bbrrr here this morning. No alarm set so 9am before I showed my face to the world. Put a fleece on over my jim jams and went out to get coal in to light the sitting room fire. I knew it would not last the night, it was almost out when we went to bed.

No real plans. I need to take scotch pies out the freezer to defrost for supper. I might make a pot of split pea soup, need something warming at lunch time.

OH is off out into the garden for an hour, yesterday he went right down the herbaceous border sorting the damage the fencers did.

I did get the coat finished, have to sew it up, have got the the troublesome row on the bonnet so will tackle it when OH has his siesta after lunch.

Its my grand daughters engagement party tonight. Its being held in the city, we no longer drive at night so will not be going, she does understand why, I have a feeling it will end up being a boozy do anyway, not our scene at the best of times.

We saw the new foot bridge in Tadcaster on the news, should make life a bit easier for Elona, they are still having to use the long way round in a car. They hope to have the old bridge rebuilt by the end of the year.

Time to go and get some clothes on and put the pan of soup on.......

Morning all, LW delighted to know you have the right or rightish decision, good news that your dog is Ok judi and Gers, really sorry to read about your friend.

OH has been to Mr M this morning, a friend has just rung to tell me she has a local errand so will pop in later, washing is on the line, I have lots of tiny animals to sew up (3rd batch) and apparently I am not cooking tomorrow so must restrain self from asking what fresh hell is this when confronted with large meaty item. Perhaps it won't be large meaty item, I live in hope.

Very little sleep, good job you can't go into minus figures with sleep as if you could, there I would be.

    Good afternoon everyone :hello:

I feel like a new woman today, I managed 8 hours of sleep and didn't have any pain either, woo hoo! Poor hubby had a bad night though with lots of bad dreams, and then to top it off he came downstairs to find poor Max had had an accident in his bed which needed cleaning up. Max has had a bath and his bedding has been washed and put back now so all is good.

Gers, I am so sorry to hear the sad news about your friend, sending you a load of hugs x
Judi, I am glad the op was successful, good luck with the nursing
Lamewolf, hooray that you had your award. I am petrified of going through the process too.
Hester, wow, you certainly will need your nanna nap later :)

I felt unwell yesterday and couldn't stop drinking so I tested my blood sugar and it was 19.8 :eek::eek:. I have given myself a good kick up the bum, thrown away my chocolate and bought Michael Mosely's new book on my kindle. It basically suggests that diabetes can be reversed by following a very strict 800 calorie a day diet for 8 weeks. I worked out that that would take me up to my birthday and cover Lent as well so I have ordered salad, vegetables and oily fish etc from Tescos as the diet is Mediterranean in basis. I am going to give it a proper go and I have already apologised to my family for possibly (definitely) being grumpy over the next few weeks :D
I keep losing and gaining the same stone and a half and I would actually like to keep it off this time and feel better too. Here's hoping :).

Well I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
